What Is Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)?
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that creates the appearance of fuller hair by placing tiny pigment impressions into the scalp. Often referred to as a hair tattoo, SMP is designed to replicate the look of natural hair follicles and can be used to restore hairlines, add density to thinning areas, or camouflage scars.
At Infinity Scalp, SMP is customized for each client to create natural, realistic results that blend seamlessly with existing hair and skin tone. Whether you are experiencing hair thinning, pattern baldness, or hair transplant scarring, SMP offers a long-lasting solution that helps restore confidence and create the look of fuller, healthier hair.

- What to Expect During Your SMP Treatment
Most SMP procedures are completed over 2–3 sessions to achieve the most natural and realistic results possible. Your first session typically lasts between 3–7 hours, with only one client scheduled per day so we can focus entirely on precision, detail, and quality.
The second session usually takes place 2–4 weeks later to build density, refine the hairline, and perfect the overall result. Depending on your skin type, healing process, and desired look, a third session may be recommended after approximately 2 months for final adjustments and added realism.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is scalp micropigmentation a good option if I’ve tried other hair loss treatments?
Yes, many of our clients come to us after trying options like medications, hair transplants, or hair systems without achieving the results they wanted. Scalp micropigmentation offers a non-surgical alternative that creates the appearance of real hair follicles. It works independently or alongside other treatments to improve overall density and coverage. During your consultation at our Totowa clinic, we’ll assess your hair loss pattern and recommend the best approach. SMP is often chosen for its natural look and low maintenance.
How natural will my SMP results look?
When performed correctly, SMP should look extremely natural and blend seamlessly with your existing hair or shaved style. At Scalp & Brows NJ, we customize every treatment based on your skin tone, hair color, and facial structure. The goal is to replicate the appearance of real follicles—not create a solid or artificial look. We build the result gradually over multiple sessions to ensure proper density and realism. Most people won’t be able to tell you’ve had a procedure done.
How long does scalp micropigmentation last?
SMP is considered a long-lasting solution, with results typically lasting several years. Over time, the pigment will gradually fade rather than change color or disappear suddenly. Factors like sun exposure, skin type, and lifestyle can affect how long the results remain strong. Many clients return for a touch-up every few years to maintain definition. Proper aftercare and sun protection will help extend the longevity of your results.
Can SMP be used to cover scars or previous procedures?
Yes, SMP is highly effective for camouflaging scars from hair transplants (FUE or FUT), injuries, or other scalp conditions. Pigment is carefully placed into and around the scar tissue to reduce contrast and blend it with the surrounding scalp. Because scar tissue behaves differently, treatments may require additional sessions for optimal results. During your consultation, we evaluate the area and create a customized plan. This service is one of the most transformative applications of SMP.
What is the recovery process like after SMP?
Absolutely. SMP is one of the most popular solutions for men who prefer a shaved or closely cropped hairstyle because it creates the appearance of a clean, full hairline. It can also help define the hairline and improve overall scalp density for a sharper look.
